Here's What Happens When You Have David Lee Roth's Old Phone Number

When you think of the rockstar life, you probably think of girls, crazy parties and a Hollywood agent blowing up your phone.

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

An unassuming New York couple got a little glimpse into David Lee Roth's glitz and glam--all by accident.

In an article published by The Washington Post, writer Nancy French explains that in the 1980s, she married a man (also named David) she barely knew when she was 20 years old, much to the disgrace of her family and friends. The couple moved from Tennessee to NYC's Gramercy Park.

"My life was as romantic as a love song," French noted. "Then, after one week of marriage, the phone rang."

A number of women began to call, sultrily asking to speak to David. When she would hand the phone to her husband, he would insist it was a wrong number and hang up. French then began to question her marriage. "Had I made a terrible mistake?" she wrote. "My friends were right; I didn’t even know him. Maybe our relationship was all a ruse. I’d heard stories of people getting married only to realize their spouse had a double life."

Thankfully, the insecurity was shortlived, as Roth's agent called, and the confusion was cleared. "Apparently, the rock star had changed his number right before we moved to Manhattan but still gave out his old number to women he met but wanted to let down easily," French wrote. "Later that year, he appeared on MTV with Van Halen. When rumors of them getting back together started flying, our phone rang with congratulations and invitations to exclusive parties."
