The "Prosper" rapper will portray “Shotgun,” a character based on Method Man. East has been building his acting career as of late. The New York native landed his first major acting gig on VH1's The Breaks in 2017, and will appear in the forthcoming Netflix film, Beats, directed by Chris Robinson.
East was revealed as a cast member of the Wu-Tang series alongside Julian Elijah Matinez and The Sopranos star, Vinnie Pastore. Martinez signed on to portray Divine, RZA’s older brother. Pastor will play Larry, owner of a rib joint on Staten Island.
Set in New York City in the 1990s during the height of the crack academic, the series centers around the founding of the Wu-Tang Clan. Specifically, how RZA worked to unify a collective of young black men who chose music over street life and rose to become “the unlikeliest of American success stories.”
RZA and Tse will executive produce and help write the series. Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo and Method Man will also serve as producers, while fellow Wu members Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, GZA, Masta Killa, and Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s estate are consulting producers.
The series is currently in pre-production.
