Corey Taylor cancels second solo festival appearance due to illness

The Slipknot frontman is set to perform at Download 2024 this weekend

When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has cancelled two solo festival appearances due to “ongoing illness”.

The musician pulled out of his scheduled slot at Nova Rock Festival yesterday (June 13), having previously axed his set at Rock For People in the Czech Republic on Wednesday (12).

In his first statement on social media, Taylor wrote: “To my friends and family in the Czech Republic – I am sorry to say that I woke up very sick today and as a result of this I will not be able to perform at Rock For People festival.

“The health and safety of my band and crew is always our first priority on the road and I do not want to cause further issues by trying to perform today.”

He added: “I am truly sorry to everyone who was looking forward to this performance at Rock For People and I promise I will return and make it up to you.”

The following day, Taylor said his “ongoing illness” meant he would have to drop out of his next date in Austria.

“I am deeply sorry to have to cancel another performance, but my priority remains keeping our band and crew healthy while doing everything I can to rest and heal,” he explained.

“I hope to see my Austrian friends again very soon when I can give them the performance they deserve.” You can see both posts above.

Taylor is set to perform at Download Festival 2024 this Sunday (June 16). It is not yet known whether his slot will go ahead, and he hasn’t shared any further information about his condition.

Shows are due to follow in Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Spain and France throughout the rest of this month and into early July.

Last year saw Taylor release his second solo record, ‘CMF2’. In a three-star review, NME said that “there’s enough good stuff on here to justify the album’s existence”.

It added: “And if nothing else, it’s a fascinating insight into the dichotomy that drives one of the greatest bands of the 21st Century.”

In other news, Slipknot recently announced their first song with new drummer Eloy Casagrande, ‘Long May You Die’.

The masked band will embark on their ‘Here Comes The Pain’ 25th anniversary tour in North America this summer, with Knocked Loose and more appearing as special guests at the shows. Find any remaining tickets here.
